What is your next "BIG THING?"

Have you ever caught yourself thinking about how something has become the "in thing?" As technology evolves it seems like everything else needs to evolve as well. It seems like you can't go anywhere that there isn't someone texting, surfing the web and updating their schedule all on their cell phone. I find myself thinking back to the years when I didn't have a cell phone and wonder how I survived. Like everyone else, I had to jump on the cell phone train and get one.

It doesn't matter what line of work you are in or where you live, there are trends everywhere you look. In advertising we had trends of solely advertising in the newspaper and the phonebooks. As time went on and technology progressed we now advertise on the internet with Google ads and websites, blogs and social sites.

Now think about what you as a business are doing for advertising and promoting your company. Are you keeping up with the trends of today's world? Everything is at a click of a button, are you? The saying of "gone in a New York second" is becoming more of a literal thing everyday. People are running to meetings, school functions for their kids, and now before you know it we will be getting ready for holiday parties. Multi-tasking has become the thing to do Email, searching the web, texting and making phone calls in the car is much more of the norm.

My real question for you is, what is your next "BIG THING" that is going to grab the attention of your customers that will stop them in their busy day to day lives and have them come to your business?

Fall is here!

There is evidence that fall is officially here. I was driving on river street the other day and noticed all of the leaves changing from green to the vibrant yellows, oranges and reds. Even though the temperature still feels like it is summer, seeing the changing of the seasons reminds me that just like the leaves you need to keep changing with the seasons yourself. As business owners, have you "changed" with the seasons?
It is amazing how using color really draws attention your way. By adding color into your window displays, fall flowers in front of your store or changing out your merchandise into the seasons must haves, consumers constantly find themselves being excited to come into your store to see what is new that day from the last time they were in.
This is true in your advertising as well. It isn't all about the catchy headline and fancy words that are used but it is the color and the texture that really is the "eye candy" that leads the customer into reading more and really looking at what you have sent them.

At MAJIRS! we have just finished up the FiberNet Monticello direct mail pieces. It's lime green and isn't a typical size that you would see any other day. It made me smile a little bit the when I went into the Post Office to get our mail and there was a gentleman going through his stuff, throwing the "junk mail" away, as he was about to toss the FiberNet piece, he stopped, opened it, then put it back into his "keep" pile. I had to stop and ask what made him rethink throwing that away and he said that it had caught his eye and then realized that it was something for FiberNet and wanted to know more about what FiberNet had to offer that was different from the other fiber optic company.

So when it comes to you as an individual or you as a business, ask yourself one question, have I changed with the seasons or has my "color" lost its wow factor?
